Arwind Santos optimistic about chance to win MVP award

Arwind Santos and the Petron Blaze Boosters are in seventh heaven.

Arwind Santos optimistic about chance to win MVP award

Not only did they win their seventh straight game, the team is already assured of the No. 1 spot in the quarterfinals of the Governors’ Cup.

For Santos, it’s not only for the Boosters to get a better shot at winning a title it’s also an opportunity to stake his claim to personal glory.

Santos currently the statistical derby for the season’s Most Valuable Player award, but has not been in the mix for Best Player of the Conference in the first two tournaments because of Petron’s disappointing performances. A good finish for the Boosters makes Santos a leading candidate again for MVP.

“Dati ko pa naman naramdaman yang tsansa (na manalo ng MVP). Kung talagang ibibigay yan ng Diyos sa akin, ibibigay niya yan,” Santos told InterAKTV in an exclusive interview.

The 6-foot-4 forward came close to winning the MVP award several times, but ended up falling short.

This year could be his best chance of winning it as he leads the race ahead of rookie Calvin Abueva of Alaska and LA Tenorio of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.

For now, Santos is focused on helping his team to go all the way. The Boosters are on top of the standings with a 7-1 record.

The MVP, however, is at the back of his mind.

“Sino ba naman ang hindi sasaya sa isang bagay na matagal mo nang pinapangarap? Magiging masaya ako kapag natupad na ‘yun,” added Santos.
