Brandon Vera vs. 'Chopper' Parry for ONE FC heavyweight title in Manila
Filipino-American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Brandon "The Truth" Vera will battle Chi Lewis "Chopper" Parry for the inaugural ONE Championship heavyweight title at the Mall of Asia Arena on December 11, the organization announced.
The unbeaten Parry, a British kickboxer, challenged Vera to the titular showdown after both fighters recently recorded first-round knockout wins.
"We're thrilled to be returning to Manila to bring our loyal fans one of the biggest fights of the year," ONE FC chief executive Victor Cui announced in a statement. "Brandon Vera and Chi Lewis Parry are two of the most exciting heavyweight fighters in the world."
"With the ONE Heavyweight title on the line, we can expect a fantastic fight. These two have been on a collision course for some time, and it will all come to a head at ONE: Spirit of Champions," he added.
Vera made a sensational ONE FC debut by knocking out Ukrainian heavyweight Igor Subora in front of a raucous crowd at the MOA Arena last December.
"I am excited to have the honor of fighting for the ONE heavyweight championship in the Philippines," said Vera. "I am very much looking forward to fighting Mr. Parry, especially since he's been asking for it."
The 6-foot-9 Parry remains unbeaten in MMA and crushed Cameroon's Alain Ngalani with a series of vicious elbows in his most recent fight.
"This clash with Vera has been brewing for over a year now," Parry said. "Finally, the truth will be told, the score will be settled, and the world will witness greatness happen this December."
