UAAP: Tab Baldwin officially named Ateneo's new head coach

It’s a done deal: The Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles have officially declared Tab Baldwin as their new head coach.

The announcement was made on Monday afternoon (December 7) in a statement released by Ateneo president Fr. Jose Ramon “Jett” Villarin, SJ which was posted on the university's official website.

La Salle Green Archers rally from 15 down, defeat Ateneo Blue Eagles (VIDEO)

Josh Torralba and Jeron Teng struck hard in the stretch as La Salle rallied from 15 points down to prevail over arch rival Ateneo, 80-76, in the UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball tournament before roaring 17,738 fans at the MOA Arena yesterday.
Torralba knocked it down from the corner to give La Salle the upperhand, then Teng took care of business at the line to put the finishing touches to the hard-earned win, their fourth in seven outings in the first round.

The victory propelled DLSU to a share of third with the Eagles.

All hail the kings: Ateneo De Manila Blue Eagles crowned themselves as 77th UAAP men's volleyball champion after sweeping the dethroned National University in the best-of-three finals.

NU Bulldogs beat Ateneo 65-63 to advance to UAAP 77 Finals

National University Bulldogs beat Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles 65-63 in Do-or-Die Game Wednesday afternoon to advance to UAAP Finals after 44 years. NU will compete the winner of FEU vs La Salle match for UAAP 77 Championship crown.
The mad scramble for the last possession of the first quarter provided a good sense of foreshadowing.

Ateneo Blue Eagles vs DLSU Lady Spikers GAME 4 FULL REPLAY VIDEO

A fabled era comes to an abrupt ending, no one saw coming.

Displaying their championship form all game long, the Ateneo Lady Eagles conquered the De La Salle Lady Spikers in historic fashion with a 25-23, 26-24, 25-21 straight sets victory in Game 4 of the UAAP Season 76 women's volleyball finals on Saturday in front of a record crowd inside the Mall of Asia Arena.

Inspired by their 'heartstrong' battlecry, Ateneo flashed nerves of steel in the end to finally take down the Taft Avenue wall before a frenetic crowd, ending their three-year reign and possibly ushering the start of a new legacy.

Defending UAAP basketball champions Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles are set to submit to the league board a letter asking for an investigation on a possible violation committed by suspended UE Red Warrior Ralf Olivares during Sunday's game between the two teams.

UE questions the presence of banned Ateneo coach Perasol in venue

The UE Red Warriors are seeking clarification of the rules on suspensions after a possible violation surfaced that could result in Ateneo’s forfeiture of their 77-72 win last Sunday.


Ateneo coach Bo Perasol, who was out serving a one-game suspension for his encounter with a La Salle fan last week, was spotted inside the Mall of Asia Arena during the game, despite a UAAP rule stating that “the presence of a suspended coach, manager, assistant manager, statistician, scorers, masseurs, etc. and those listed as members of the team shall not be allowed in the bench or venue during the period of suspension.”

UAAP suspends Ateneo coach Bo Perasol; bans La Salle fan

The UAAP Board has suspended Ateneo de Manila University coach Bo Perasol for one game for his involvement in a near scuffle after a loss to De La Salle University last Sunday, September 1.

UAAP: Jeron Teng pushes La Salle beats Ateneo (VIDEO)

Jeron Teng nailed a basket with 1.9 seconds left to lift the DLSU Green Archers past the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 66-64, in the second round of the UAAP men's basketball tournament at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum Sunday evening.

Ateneo was up 49-46 after three quarters, but the Archers went on an 11-4 blast early in the payoff period to take the lead.

UAAP: No Thomas Torres on Ateneo-La Salle match on sunday

De La Salle University guard Thomas Torres has been slapped with an automatic one-game suspension by the UAAP for incurring a second unsportsmanlike foul this season, leaving him out of the Archers' match against archrival Ateneo de Manila University on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

UAAP Season 76: Men's Basketball Games Schedule

The UAAP Season 76 has already started last weekend, with four explosive opening games for its Men's Basketball Tournament had FEU Tamaraws, UST Growling Tigers, NU Bulldogs and Adamson Soaring Falcons winning their respective games. 



Probably the biggest story to highlight UAAP Season 76 Opening was the loss of 5-peat defending champions Ateneo Blue Eagles during their first game Sunday against the NU Bulldogs led by last season's MVP Bobby Ray Parks Jr.

Ateneo withdraws from FilOil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup

Following a 78-70 win over heated rival De La Salle in the FilOil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup, Ateneo has pulled out of the tournament due to an injury plagued lineup.


The Blue Eagles, reigning UAAP mens’ basketball champions, will also withdraw from the Fr. Martin Preseason Cup.

UAAP 2012 Men's Basketball Finals GAME 2: Ateneo vs UST Full Video Replay



MANILA, Philippines - The Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles made sure that there will be no repeat of 2006 as they defeated the University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers, 65-62, in Game Two of the UAAP Season 75 Finals to win their fifth straight men's basketball championship.

Over 20,000 fans trooped to the Araneta Coliseum Thursday to watch Game Two, with the Growling Tigers looking to pull off their most epic comeback yet and force a do-or-die Game Three.

The Ateneo Blue Eagles won their fifth straight UAAP title after defeating University of Santo Tomas, 65-62, in Game Two to sweep the Season 75 finals Thursday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Sophomore Kiefer Ravena led the charge for Ateneo, hitting 21 points including a crucial basket with 30 seconds left that pushed the Blue Eagles lead to six points.

2012 UAAP Men's Basketball Finals: GAME 1: Ateneo vs UST Full Video Replay



Ateneo de Manila University used a monster second half start before relying on its championship composure in the endgame to upend University of Santo Tomas, 83-78, in Game One of the UAAP Season 75 finals Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

The Blue Eagles opened the third quarter with a 17-0 run that turned a 38-31 halftime deficit into a 48-38 lead. The Growling Tigers came back to briefly retake the lead in the fourth, but several Ateneo players, including Kiefer Ravena who scored with 8.8 seconds to clinch the game, made crucial baskets late as the Blue Eagles took an early lead in their best-of-three championship series.

Ateneo sees UST Growling Tigers as its toughest finals foe yet



Ateneo Blue Eagles see University of Santo Tomas as its toughest finals foe yet in in a dream run in the UAAP seniors basketball championship that has put the Eagles on the threshold of a fifth straight title.

“This might be the hardest championship to win because UST is a tough opponent,” said Ateneo team manager Paolo Trillo during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at the Shakey’s Malate.

“To close out a championship mahirap at nakakapagod kaya focus right now is prepare the best we can,” Trillo added.
