Rafael Nadal Withdraws From London Olympics Due To Knee Injury

MADRID - Olympic champion Rafael Nadal's withdrawal from the London Games because of injury deprived the tournament of one of its biggest attractions and left Spain reeling on Thursday.

The gold medal winner in Beijing four years ago has failed to recover from a knee problem, and also misses out on the honour of carrying his nation's flag at the opening ceremony.

The Spanish tennis federation (RFET) said Feliciano Lopez would be his replacement in the singles while the country's Olympic committee (COE) said a meeting on Friday would decide on a replacement flag bearer for the July 27th parade.

"I'm not in a condition to be able to compete," Nadal, 26, said in a statement. "It's one of the saddest moments of my career."

Nadal won a record seventh French Open title in June but crashed out in the second round at Wimbledon in a massive upset against lowly ranked Czech Lukas Rosol.

Miss Australia's National Costume For Miss World 2012 Receives Criticism

As the Miss World 2012 pageant begins in Mongolia, controversies will never be far behind. First to hit the headlines is the national costume of Miss Australia.

The Aboriginal culture-inspired bodysuit for Jessica Kahawaty, Australia’s candidate to the Miss World 2012 pageant, has been criticized by fashion experts, according to a report by News.com.au.

Project Runway Australia mentor–Alex Perry–said it looked more circus than serious fashion.

“I never knew Egyptian sea urchins were Australian? The creators of Avatar called, they want their catsuit back,” he said.

Jeremy "Linsanity" Lin Joins Houston Rockets; Betrayed New York Knicks?

Jeremy Lin is officially a Houston Rocket. Now, we find out whether "Linsanity" can survive Texas heat.

The Knicks confirmed on Tuesday that they would not match the three-year, $25.1 million offer sheet Lin signed with the Houston Rockets on Friday. The club declined to comment on the stunning development while Lin took to Twitter to say, "Extremely excited and honored to be a Houston Rocket again."

The decision was both financial and emotional since Garden Chairman James Dolan was upset over Lin's decision to restructure his deal with Houston last week to include a third year salary of $14.9 million. Dolan, according to sources, felt he was deceived by the 23-year-old Lin.

"Much love and thankfulness to the Knicks and New York for your support this past year," Lin said on Twitter. "Easily the best year of my life. #ForeverGratful."

Of course, team officials privately felt that Lin's actions over the past few weeks were anything but grateful. They were upset that Lin hired a publicist without their consent and were livid that the second year point guard out of Harvard went back to the Rockets for more money.

As recently as last week, all signs pointed to Lin returning with head coach Mike Woodson even saying that Lin would be his starting point guard and that newly acquired Jason Kidd would serve as the back-up.

B-MEG Llamados Proud of Denzel Bowles' 2012 NBA Summer League Performance

B-MEG coach Tim Cone seemed like a proud father when he heard news about former Llamados’ import Denzel Bowles’ impressive showing in his NBA Summer League debut with the New Orleans Hornets.

“The B-MEG team and the entire SMC organization is so proud of him,” Cone told InterAKTV. “He will always be welcome to our B-MEG family, but I would be happier to see him fulfill his dream of playing in the NBA.”

But Cone still watched Bowles’ performance with a coach’s eye, and had some pointers for his former ward, who won Best Import in the Commissioner’s Cup and led the Llamados to the title.

“He still needs to improve his defense and has to get up and down the court quickly. But Denzel is learning and continuously improving. I’m so proud of what he has achieved,” said Cone.

Other members of the Llamados tweeted words of encouragement for their former teammate.

JC Intal (@jcintal7) :   @Denzel_Bowles congrats, big D! I feel proud watching you this morning. Great job!
