Basketball center Jason Collins on Monday became the first active player in a major American professional team sport to reveal he is gay -- a groundbreaking disclosure greeted with broad support.

"I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport," Collins said. "But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation."The 34-year-old free agent who has played for six NBA teams over the past 12 seasons, went public with his sexuality in an essay published on Sports Illustrated magazine's website.

Among those backing Collins was US President Barack Obama.

Alaska’s Calvin Abueva bashed San Mig Coffee’s James Yap for accusing the former of playing dirty during their tussle in the 2013 PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals.

Abueva said that if the two-time PBA Most Valuable Player can’t handle a physical game, then the latter should go and play chess instead.

“Lahat naman ng laro physical, hindi ba? Kung isa sa amin ayaw masaktan, eh di mag-chess na lang siya,” the former San Sebastian standout said in Mei-Lin Lozada’s Spin.ph report.

Retired NBA legend Michael Jordan married model Yvette Prieto at a ceremony in Florida on Saturday with a lavish reception at a luxury golf community, People magazine reported on Sunday.

Jordan, 50, led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA titles during his playing days and his name remains one of the top brands in sports marketing. He now owns the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats.

Prieto, 35, met Jordan at a Miami club in 2008 and they have dated for five years. The couple became engaged in 2011 and applied for a marriage license last month at the county courthouse in Palm Beach, Florida.

Unbeaten Danny Garcia retained his World Boxing Association and World Boxing Council light welterweight world titles Saturday with a 12-round unanimous decision over Zab Judah.

Garcia knocked down Judah in the eighth round en route to his 26th victory in as many fights, with 16 wins inside the distance.

The three judges at ringside scored it 114-112, 115-112, and 116-111 for Garcia.

“Whoo! It was a hell of a fight, man,” said the champion, who survived Judah’s fierce surge in the last three rounds to earn the decision.

Former world light-welterweight champion Amir Khan had to climb off the canvas to keep on course for a shot at the division's champions by out-pointing Julio Diaz on Saturday (Sunday, PHL time).

Khan, 26, was floored in the fourth round and looked on the brink of another knockdown in the 11th of a thrilling catchweight (143 pounds) 12-round non-title contest with Mexican Diaz at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield.

In Khan's first performance back on British soil for two years, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist triumphed by scores of 114-113, 115-113 and 115-112 in a close fight.

On the other hand, Chael Sonnen is one of the sport’s most colorful characters and best trash talkers. A very good wrestler, he gave Anderson Silva great difficulty in the middleweight division. 

Round 1. Sonnen presses forward. Jones changes levels and takes Sonnen down. Sonnen stands up and they exchange punches from inside the clinch before separating. They clinch again and Jones takes Sonnen down. Sonnen has a butterfly guard near the cage. Sonnen works his way back up and they clinch next to the cage. Jones looks for a lift but Sonnen blocks it. Jones goes for a spinning back elbow but it misses. Jones then moves in and grabs a deep double leg that he uses to slam Sonnen back down. Jones begins throwing punches and elbows from inside Sonnen's guard. Jones drops down elbos and pins Sonnen's arm. Sonnen covers up and Jones begins dropping down heavier elbows. Sonnen is bleeding. The fight is stopped.

Popular online shopping mall Multiply.com has announced of its official closing on May 6, 2013 after serving nine years as a cyber shopping mall.

The company said it will maintain normal site operations through May 6 and will cease all business operations by May 31.
