B-MEG Llamados Proud of Denzel Bowles' 2012 NBA Summer League Performance

B-MEG coach Tim Cone seemed like a proud father when he heard news about former Llamados’ import Denzel Bowles’ impressive showing in his NBA Summer League debut with the New Orleans Hornets.

“The B-MEG team and the entire SMC organization is so proud of him,” Cone told InterAKTV. “He will always be welcome to our B-MEG family, but I would be happier to see him fulfill his dream of playing in the NBA.”

But Cone still watched Bowles’ performance with a coach’s eye, and had some pointers for his former ward, who won Best Import in the Commissioner’s Cup and led the Llamados to the title.

“He still needs to improve his defense and has to get up and down the court quickly. But Denzel is learning and continuously improving. I’m so proud of what he has achieved,” said Cone.

Other members of the Llamados tweeted words of encouragement for their former teammate.

The love went both ways though. Even before his Summer League debut, Bowles showed that he was still keeping track of B-MEG’s campaign, congratulating his former team on its crucial win on Sunday night.

In an interview, Bowles credited his PBA stint for preparing him for the rigors of pursuing his NBA dream.

“It definitely matured me. I was the youngest out there, and I had a lot of guys guiding me,” said the 23-year-old Bowles. “I grew through the season, and they really helped me out to become a man, basically.”

Denzel Bowles' Performance On 2012 NBA Summer League:

In his NBA Summer League debut, Bowles posted a team-highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds, as his New Orleans Hornets fell to the Portland Trailblazers, 85-82, at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

With top overall pick Anthony Davis called up to Team USA, Bowles made the most of his opportunity, coming off the bench to score 18 on an impressive 8-for-12 shooting clip in just 19 minutes of play.

Hornets teammate Austin Rivers, the 10th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, finished with 14 points, two assists and three steals in 32 minutes. Portland was led by 6th pick Damien Lillard, who scored a game-high 25 points for the winning team.

On 2nd Game of Hornets against Milwaukee Bucks, Bowles struggled. He finished the game with just five points and seven rebounds as the New Orleans Hornets crashed to their second loss in as many games, 76-68, at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
