The NCAA is the most-watched Philippine collegiate basketball league on television, according to Nielsen television data.
Since its transfer to AKTV this season, NCAA games have averaged 200,000 viewers from games on June 23 to August 18, according to Nielsen’s national urban television audience measurement (NUTAM) data. This translates to 13 percent more viewers for NCAA over UAAP.
In Mega Manila, NCAA’s advantage is even more pronounced, with games generating averaging 120,000 compared to 70,000 viewers for UAAP, a 56 percent edge.
Parts of NCAA games are broadcast in primetime, with doubleheaders scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., while UAAP games are aired from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The overtime thriller between San Beda and Perpetual Help last July 12, which saw Baser Amer nail a Hail Mary shot at the end of regulation, drew 374,926 viewers according to Nielsen’s NUTAM data.
The opening day game between Letran and San Sebastian, meanwhile, drew 297,460 viewers according to NUTAM data.
“The outstanding ratings for this year’s NCAA college basketball tournament prove that more and more sports fans are getting involved in the exciting league action,” said Vitto Lazatin of Sports5. “We only treat this happy development as a challenge to keep delivering the best in college sports through our partnership with the NCAA.”
