Oceans apart, Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez have both begun their sparring sessions on Monday, according to reports from their respective camps.
Pacquiao and Marquez slug it out on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
It was Pacquiao who actually staged his own sparring session when he went three rounds with Filipino welterweight Antony Marcial at the gym owned by businessman Rey Golingan.
Golingan said Marcial, who is from Zamboanga province, could not endure the aches and cope with Pacquiao’s speed, calling it quits after just three rounds.
Marquez, meanwhile, held his sparring session with trainer Nacho Beristain in attendance at the Romanza Gym in Mexico City. Four lefties were called but only two showed up for the initial sparring set for just six rounds.
Beristain said the other two will be tapped in the coming weeks.
Beristain said Marquez, who turned 39 last August, will rack up a total of 120 rounds by the time he heads to Las Vegas five days before the fight.
Meanwhile, it’s green and go for Pacquiao’s much-awaited departure for Los Angeles this weekend.
Pacquiao adviser Mike Koncz, who is in General Santos City, said they'll fly to the US this Saturday night “after completing his final workout here in Gensan.”
