Former PBA number one draft pick Japeth Aguilar, who has been pursuing a spot in the NBA Development League, has been waived by the Santa Cruz Warriors, according to the official NBA D-League website.
Aguilar was part of a list of 27 players waived by their D-League teams that was published on the D-League website Wednesday.
The Warriors, the D-League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors, selected Aguilar in the seventh round of the D-League draft. The 6-foot-9 Aguilar saw action in preseason games for the Warriors but ultimately came up short in making the final roster.
On the lineup for Santa Cruz were former Talk ‘N Text reinforcement Maurice ‘Mo’ Baker and Taylor Griffin, the brother of Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin.
Aguilar will be placed on waivers on November 23rd and will be eligible to sign with a different D-League team if any show interest.
Aguilar, the first overall pick of the Burger King Whoppers in 2009 PBA Draft, was part of Talk ‘N Text roster last season after spending the two years with the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team.
