COMELEC postpones proclamation of winning senators today

The Commission on Elections is postponing Wednesday's proclamation of winners in the May 2013 senatorial election due to delays in the canvassing of votes.

Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said he has already informed the 2 top senatorial candidates in the partial count that "they will not be expecting any proclamation tonight."

"We told them they will be proclaimed tomorrow night together with several others," he said.

The 2 top senatorial candidates are Team PNoy bets Grace Poe and Loren Legarda

Comelec earlier blamed bad telecommunications signals for the delay in the transmission of official vote results in some parts of the country.

Brillantes said the same thing happened during the 2010 polls when the first proclamation of 9 new senators was made 5 days after the polls.

He said the poll body took 8 days to proclaim the winning 12 senators in the 2010 polls.

"Now, at most, we should be able to make some partial proclamation by tomorrow and probably finish it by Friday or at most Saturday. So in 5 days we will finish the 12," he said.

Under the automated election system (AES), results in the precincts are automatically transmitted to the Comelec central server aside from those sent to the “ladderized system” such as the Municipal Board of Canvassers (MBoC) and then the Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBoC).

Meanwhile, In the Photo above is the Partial unofficial tally as of May 15, 2013, 5:08 pm representing 69.24% of the Nationwide Election Returns. (54,127 of 78,166 Election Returns) (28,545,062 of 52,333,801 Registered Voters).
