Calvin Abueva to Barangay Ginebra: "Hindi kami papatalo"

Alaska rookie Calvin Abueva believes he and the Alaska Aces are in for a tough title series, not just against Barangay Ginebra but also in terms of crowd support.

After witnessing how the Kings denied Talk 'N Text in a PBA Commissioner's Cup semifinals series that went the distance, the 24-year-old Abueva said he feels Ginebra is just as hungry for a championship as Alaska.

“Ayos lang (na Ginebra ang pumasok). Alam namin na number one crowd favorite sila. Pero hindi kami papatalo sa kanila,” said the high-intensity rookie selected No. 2 overall in the last rookie draft.

With the best-of-five finals set to start Wednesday, fans are already second-guessing how Ginebra plans to stop the energetic rookie who has been responsible for Alaska's resurgence this season.

For his part, Abueva knows exactly what Alaska has to do.

"Kung ano ang depensa namin sa San Mig Coffee (nuong semifinals), mas hihigitan pa namin,” he added. “Lalaro kami ng maigi para makuha namin ang championship."

One Ginebra player who is looking forward to taking on 'The Beast' is Mac Baracael, who became dispensable for Alaska after the arrival of the former NCAA MVP out of San Sebastian.

“Excited na ko na makalaban siya, dogfight talaga ito,” said Baracael. “Syempre, iba ang nilalaro ni Calvin, paganda ng paganda kada game, kaya kailangang paghandaan."
