Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will not be voting for her chosen senators and local officials, much less for herself, on May 13.

Arroyo, who is seeking a second term as representative of Pampanga's second congressional district, did not seek permission from the court to be allowed out of hospital detention to vote in her home province, her spokesperson Elena Bautista-Horn said.

"She will not vote. We did not ask for permission," Horn said in an email reply when asked if the former leader was voting on Monday.

"They will not bring the PCOS (precinct count optical scan) machine for her also, so no vote for her," Horn added.

Arroyo remains detained at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City on plunder charges for the alleged misuse of funds of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

The former president, who has undergone three operations since 2011 for a spinal disorder, has been placed in a hospital suite instead of a regular jail because of her condition.

She was first arrested and detained in November 2011 on charges of electoral sabotage by the Commission on Elections but was allowed to post bail in July the next year after the Pasay City regional trial court ruled the evidence against her was weak.

However, she was arrested again in October the same year on the plunder charges.

Despite her detention, Arroyo filed her certificate of candidacy through her son, Ang Galing party-list Representative Juan Miguel Arroyo.

She is running against the Liberal Party’s Vivian Dabu, Sasmuan town mayor Josefina Leoncio and lawyer Charlie Chia. 

Pampanga’s second district has six towns.
