Queen of All Media Kris Aquino has reacted to a statement by a Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) official that she should not join politics out of delicadeza.
In an interview on Wednesday during a "Rock the Vote" concert here where she campaigned for her cousin, Bam Aquino, Kris said it's too early for people to judge her.
"Ang tagal tagal pa [ng 2016], 3 years, di nga tayo sure kung buhay tayo in 3 years so huwag muna sila mag-judge," she said.
The actress-host previously said she's thinking of running in Tarlac, her late parents' home province.
Kris said she is planning to seek the help of local officials who can teach and train her in government service.
"After making ikot, I've seen bonggang cities, in particular, tumatak sa akin ang Davao City and Iloilo City. Naramdaman ko that I would like OJT, on-the-job training with those mayors.
"Vinolunteer ko sarili ko talaga kay [Davao City Vice] Mayor [Rodrigo] Duterte at kay [Iloilo City] Mayor Jed [Mabilog] ng Iloilo. Sinabi ko, kung puwede, mag-two weeks, two weeks sa inyo para naman makita ko talaga kung kaya ko. So I will try that kasi parang kailangan kong makita kung kaya ko and [see if] I have what it takes to become a public servant," she said.
Fr. Melvin Castro of the CBCP's Episcopal Commission on Family and Life said last Monday Kris should stay away from politics in order to keep the integrity of the Aquino name.
“Without prejudging her intentions and capability, however, I do believe simple delicadeza dictates that the family carrying the surname that was catapulted into power by a political revolution should set an example of not perpetuating themselves in power,” said Castro.
“The Aquinos should be the first ones not to create a political dynasty,” he added.
Kris' late mother, Corazon, was brought to power after the people power revolution against the Marcos dictatorship in February 1986.
Meantime, Kris said she will take a break from showbiz after the May 13 elections.
As previously announced, Kris said she and her sons will be going abroad. She will seek treatment for her eldest child, Joshua.
"I'm taking a break...Kapag nagbabakasyon si Bimby kasi, ang bakasyon niya starts June until August. I'm taking Josh for some treatment at mayroon kaming test na gagawin in July at nag-promise ako sa anak ko ng 6 weeks na diretso na kami lang, just 3 of us traveling around...Priority is the check-up of Josh," Kris said.
