TV5 defeats GMA-7 in Visayas and Mindanao; ABS-CBN remain No.1

TV5 today said it overtook rival GMA Network Inc in primetime audience ratings in Visayas and Mindanao.

TV5 Defeats GMA-7 in Visayas and Mindanao

Citing Nielsen TV Audience Measurement data from May 19 to 25, TV5 media research chief Chiqui Trivino said the network outranked GMA in Visayas and Mindanao for primetime, particularly in Metro Iloilo, Metro Bacolod, Metro Cebu, Cagayan De Oro and Metro General Santos.

Trivino said TV5 posted a 20 percent audience share in Visayas, four points ahead of GMA's 16 percent. ABS-CBN Corp recorded a 53 percent share.

In Mindanao, the Kapatid network's 15 percent beat Kapuso's 12 percent, while ABS-CBN posted a 61 percent audience share.

Since January 2012, GMA's 21 percent audience share in Visayas dropped by five points to 16 percent in May, while its audience share in Mindanao fell by 10 points to 12 percent from 22 percent previously.

In contrast, TV5's audience share in Visayas posted a five points increase from 15 percent in January 2012 to 20 percent last month.

The Kapatid network's audience share in Mindanao for primetime also increased by three points to 12 percent last month from 13 percent in January 2012.

In Cagayan de Oro, TV5 posted an audience share of 27 percent, surpassing GMA's 16 percent. In General Santos, TV5 hit a 36 percent audience share, one point shy of ABS-CBN's 37 percent share.

For Luzon, TV5 recorded a 17 percent audience for primetime, while GMA recorded 33 percent and ABS-CBN, 34 percent.

In Metro Manila, TV5's primetime audience share stood at 17 percent, while in Metro Dagupan and Metro Naga, its share settled at 19 percent and 12 percent, respectively.

GMA had a 34 percent audience share in Metro Manila while ABS-CBN had 32 percent.

Nationwide audience share climbs to 17 percent

TV5's nationwide primetime audience share went up to 17 percent in May from 13 percent the month before. Rivals GMA and ABS-CBN recorded 29 percent and 40 percent, respectively.

In all-day viewership, TV5 recorded a 16 percent audience share in the May 19 to 25 period, a three point increase from 13 percent from the May 12 to 18 period.

GMA suffered a one point drop in all-day viewership with 30 percent from 31 percent over the same period, while ABS-CBN recorded a one point gain to 37 percent from 36 percent.

Trivino attributed the increase in TV5's primetime viewership ratings to the 2013 PBA Commissioner's Cup Game 3 Finals match between Barangay Ginebra and Alaska Aces and the network's popular movie block "Sine Ko 5ingko Premiere."

She said the Tagalized movie specials dubbed by TV5 stars like JC de Vera, Arci Munoz and Joey de Leon -- the first in local television -- helped the network break into the Top 15 of National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) Primetime Programs in May 20.

Emmanuel C. Lorenzana, TV5 president, said that the Visayas and Mindanao audience share performance showed that the network has the "capability to compete effectively if not win."

"It goes to show that once TV5 is able to extend its reach and presence we have proven that we have the capability to actually win as you could see in Visayas and Mindanao where our audience share responded with the corresponding increase in reach," Lorenzana said.

"This only gives more inspiration and energy to the TV5 family to actually do better in terms of pushing reach and of course providing Filipino people all over the Philippines a programming that they actually will enjoy," he said.
