Marc Pingris believes 100% Gilas will beat Kazakhstan

FIBA ASIA CHAMPIONSHIP 2013: If Gilas Pilipinas learned their lesson from the game against Hong Kong, then they are bound to win their FIBA Asia quarterfinal face-off opposite Kazakhstan set Friday night at the MOA Arena.

In a video interview by Solar Sports Desk Wednesday night, Pingris said their experience versus Hong Kong only proves no team can take any opponent lightly in this biennial tournament.

“100% kaya natin yan. Huwag lang talaga mag-pabaya katulad kanina sa game namin na parang wala yung energy namin, kumpiyansa kami na tatambakan namin sila, sa practice pa lang pinag-uusapan na namin yun. Inaamin naman namin kaya, sorry,” said Pingris.

It took three and a half quarters before the Nationals grabbed the lead from Hong Kong in a game that was supposedly a light assignment for the Filipino dribblers.

The Philippines eventually defeated Hong Kong, 67-55, a victory that gave the Nationals a quarterfinal seat against the Kazakhs.

Pingris also noted the difference between FIBA and the PBA when it comes to officiating. The Pozorrubio, Pangasinan native Pingris said it took him some time before finally adjusting to the FIBA style of officiating.

“Kailangan ko din mag-adjust. Kilala naman talaga ako as very physical player pero hindi naman yung sakitan pero hindi yung referee maga-adjust sa akin. Kailangang ako yung mag-adjust,” said Pingris.
