Asi Taulava’s return to the PBA has yet to be finalized, but the former PBA Most Valuable Player has been invited to join the Air 21 Express practice sessions.
“Since wala naman siyang PBA team so far, we invited him to come over so we can take a look at him,” Air 21 coach Franz Pumaren told InterAKTV in a telephone interview.
Taulava has spent the season with the San Miguel Beermen in the ASEAN Basketball League. His last PBA club, the Meralco Bolts, still own his rights in the league, meaning he couldn’t suit up for another team unless there is a trade.
Meralco officials said there is still no official trade for Taulava’s rights.
“Still no action at this point,” said Meralco executive Ramon Segismundo regarding the trade on the rights to Taulava.
Bolts coach Ryan Gregorio echoed Segismundo’s pronouncement.
“I’m very much focused on the game. I cannot comment on the trade yet. It’s premature,” he said.
