Filipino Treat Huey lose at US Open mixed doubles second round

Filipino Treat Huey and American partner Raquel Kops-Jones bowed to eighth seed Lizel Huber of the United States and Marcelo Melo of Brazil, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-5, in the second round of the US Open mixed doubles last Sunday (Monday in Manila).

Teaming up for the second time in a Grand Slam event, Huey and Kops-Jones had 20 unforced errors, including nine double faults in the one hour and 38 minutes match.

Treat Huey is a graduate of the University of Virginia. A doubles specialist, the 26-year-old has won seven medals at the Southeast Asian Games for the Philippines.

In the opening round on Friday, Huey and Kops-Jones downed Americans Victoria Duval and Donald Young, 2-6, 6-4, 10-6. Huey, the Philippines’ Davis Cup star, is still competing in the men’s doubles with Briton Dominic Inglot as his partner.
