Freddie Roach says Mayweather fought tactical, but boring fight

Boxing coach Freddie Roach thinks Floyd Mayweather Jr. fought a tactical and highly defensive fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

But while Roach admitted that Mayweather has a slick boxing style, he still considers the pound-for-pound king a boring fighter.

“Mayweather won at least 10 [rounds against Alvarez],” Roach said in an interview with Hustle Boss.

“It was very tactical, he's good at what he does, but very boring like I've always seen him.”

Roach added that Alvarez could have won if he applied more pressure against Mayweather.

He said the red-haired Mexican fought his best whenever he was the aggressor.

“He (Mayweather) didn't run that much in this fight, he stayed in front of Canelo many times. But Canelo didn't do anything about it,” said Roach.

“I thought he needed to be more aggressive.”

Mayweather scored a majority decision over erstwhile unbeaten Alvarez to win the WBC and WBA junior middleweight titles.

"It is about skills," Mayweather, undefeated in 45 fights, said. "I came out tonight and showed my skills.”
