Boxing trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., the father of unbeaten American champion Floyd Mayweather, believes Manny Pacquiao will not be able to recover if he is “clipped or knocked down” by Brandon Rios.
Pacquiao will try to end a two-fight losing streak – including a knockout loss at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez – against Rios this November.
Speaking to Boxing Scene, Mayweather said that while he does not know who Rios is, it is unlikely Pacquiao can bounce back if he loses in their fight.
“I’ll be honest with you, I don’t even know who the hell Rios is,” Mayweather said. “I have never seen Rios or heard of him before. I can’t tell you that I’ve seen him fight before, so I don’t know what kind of fighter he is.”
“But I know if Pacquiao gets clipped or knocked down, it’s pretty much over for him,” he added.
Even Pacquiao’s own trainer, Freddie Roach, has said that he will advise the Filipino legend to retire if he loses to Rios.
While Mayweather Sr. is not sure of who Rios is, he is certain about one thing.
“Maybe he will bounce back against Brandon Rios or he might now,” said Mayweather. “But I’ll tell you this, he will never beat the elite guys like Floyd.”
