NU Pep Squad eyes UAAP 76 cheerdance title

National University is hoping to improve on its third place finish last year in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 cheer dance competition which will be held on Sept. 15 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

NU Pep Squad eyes UAAP 76 cheerdance title

The Bulldogs have gradually improved the last three years, providing them the confidence to contend for the crown.

“Naihanda na namin yung sarili namin. Yes, we are very confident at our chances,” said NU Pep Squad coach Ghicka Bernabe who vowed to give last year’s top two finishers University of the Philippines and Far Eastern University a run for their money.

The Bulldogs have been preparing hard in the last four months, according to Bernabe.

“Ibinuhos na talaga namin ang lahat this year. Creativity, stunts, costumes, props… everything,” added Bernabe, who led the team to the title of the 2013 National Cheerdance Championships last March at the expense of FEU.

NU’s rise as sports power can be attribute to Hans Sy’s hands-on leadership.

The pep squad program alone became more dynamic, getting full support from Macro LPG, which believes in the school’s capability to establish a longer reign in cheer dance tourney.

“I think we have a spot here (cheerdance). NU has been very competitive and we hope to be in the coming years,” said Pat Chunsim, Macro LPG representative, while watching their 25-man team run another near flawless routine in practice.
