The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has approved on Saturday the four-player trade involving comebacking Asi Taulava and veteran guard Mike Cortez.
The former PBA Most Valuable Player Taulava, alongside swingman Mark Borboran, will be headed to the Air 21 Express while Cortez and forward James Sena are set to join the Meralco Bolts.
Incoming PBA chairman and Meralco Bolts board representative Ramon Segismundo confirmed the news in a text message to InterAKTV.
“The commissioner has finally approved the trade – Asi Taulava, Mike Borboran for Mike Cortez, James Sena. Cortez to practice ASAP,” wrote Segismundo.
On Friday, Taulava attended the Air 21 practice, in a hint that the Express have already acquired his services.
Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio then confirmed the deal after his team’s third straight victory, needing only the approval of PBA commissioner Chito Salud to complete it.
Taulava has been playing in the ABL, winning a championship for San Miguel Beer while also copping the league’s most prestigious individual award.
The 40-year-old Taulava will have his first game back against Talk ‘N Text, the team he initially played for in the PBA.
The Express will meet the Tropang Texters on September 13.
