PBA: Tim Cone accepts suspensions on Marc Pingris, Joe Devance

San Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone knows that the sanctions meted by the PBA to his key players Marc Pingris and Joe Devance is beyond the team’s control.

With the league handing a two-game ban on Pingris and a one-game suspension on Devance for their roles in the melee that broke out between the Mixers and the GlobalPort Batang Pier last Wednesday, Cone remained positive about San Mig Coffee’s chances in their upcoming matches.

“At least, no one gets hurt seriously,” Cone told InterAKTV in a telephone interview. “That’s something we have to be thankful for. As for the sanctions, that’s something we don’t have any control of.”

Pingris figured in a fight with GlobalPort rookie forward Kelly Nabong, who was also banned for two games. Both players were fined P60,000.

Devance, on the other hand, will be missing the Coffee Mixers’ much-awaited game against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on Sunday, as he was suspended for “triggering the melee.”

Pingris will also miss the Mixers’ showdown on Tuesday against Alaska.

“When you take out two of your starters from your team, it’s really hard for us, especially when you play top quality opponents like Barangay Ginebra and Alaska,” added Cone. “But I still believe we still have enough depth on our line up and a few good players around.”

The coach will likely tap deeper into his bench with the hope that they will step up.

“One player’s misfortune is an opportunity for others,” he said.
