Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao is ready to face his former tormentor Timothy Bradley in a rematch after the American boxer’s victory over Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas last Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
However, Pacquiao said he would rather focus first on his upcoming fight against Brandon Rios on November 23.
Pacquiao’s statement comes after Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum said Bradley may get the rematch with Pacquiao – if the Filipino wins over Rios next month.
“As for who the victor could face next, his promoter, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, pointed to the winner of the 23 November tilt between Pacquiao and Brandon RĂos,” The Guardian reported.
However, the Philippine Star, in a report published on Monday, quoted Pacquiao’s adviser, Mike Koncz as saying Pacquiao is not interested in either Bradley or Marquez.
“We are not interested in fighting either of them as they declined our offers prior to (us) agreeing to fight Rios,” Koncz was quoted as saying.
Pacquiao lost to the brash American in June 2012, which was highly criticized by boxing fans.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao told ABS-CBN News that he predicted that Bradley would win against Marquez.
“Ang bet ko talaga si Bradley dahil mabilis nga ito, at hindi kasi siya umaatake eh,” he said, although he admitted that he didn’t watch the fight as he had Bible studies the whole of Sunday.
Meanwhile, another Filipino boxing champ Nonito Donaire Jr. watched the Bradley-Marquez fight live in Las Vegas.
"Alam ko naman na close ‘yung laban,” he told ABS-CBN News. “Sa camera ko ‘yung suntok ni Marquez ‘yung parang more clear. Pero nakikita mo naman si Bradley he’s scoring with punches."
Donaire is set to return to the boxing ring on November 9 in a rematch against Vic Darchinyan.
