Petron star Arwind Santos named MVP in LEO Awards (VIDEO)

Arwind Santos is finally no longer a bridesmaid. The ultra-athletic Petron Blaze forward was named Most Valuable Player of the 2013 PBA season on Friday at the Leo Awards at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Santos beat out Jayson Castro of Talk ‘N Text and LA Tenorio of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel for the plum.

“Nabigyan niyo pa ng kulay ang buhay ko,” said Santos, who revealed that he did odd jobs as a kid, including working as a pedicab driver.

“Kahit mahirap, may chance po makuha ang award na ito.”

He won his first MVP trophy after coming close three times in the past, losing to Kelly Williams in 2008, to Jimmy Alapag in 2011, and to Mark Caguioa last year.

Santos, Tenorio, and Castro formed the First Mythical Team along with Calvin Abueva of Alaska and Ranidel De Ocampo of Talk ‘N Text.

Marc Pingris of San Mig Coffee, June Mar Fajardo and Alex Cabagnot of Petron, Sonny Thoss and Cyrus Baguio of Alaska formed the Second Mythical team.

Abueva, the second overall pick, beat out Fajardo, the top draftee, for Rookie of the Year honors. The brash Alaska forward was instrumental in the Aces’ run to the Commissioner’s Cup title.

KG Canaleta of Air 21 won the Most Improved Player trophy.

Pingris, Thoss, and Santos comprised the All-Defensive Team along with Marcio Lassiter of Petron and Gabe Norwood of Rain or Shine.

JVee Casio of Alaska took home the Sportsmanship Award for the second straight year.
