Atom Araullo brave reporting of Typhoon Yolanda (VIDEO)

The daring coverage of ABS-CBN News reporter Atom Araullo in Tacloban City, which was battered Friday by the world's most powerful typhoon this year, was lauded by netizens as it aired on primetime, making it a top trending topic on Twitter.
Araullo reported live at around 6:40 a.m. Friday from a street in Tacloban for the ABS-CBN morning show "Umagang Kay Ganda," as he described the devastation brought by "Yolanda" in the area.

The footage, which showed a storm surge carrying piles of debris on the streets, was also aired on ABS-CBN's flagship newscast "TV Patrol."

The video also showed the ABS-CBN News team in the second floor of a building, from where they had a view of the same street Araullo had been reporting from just an hour ago, appearing to be a river of debris.

Early Friday, the same footage, as uploaded on ABS-CBN News' official YouTube page, went viral on social media. As of writing, it already had over 117,000 views.

As the footage aired on primetime, netizens took to Twitter to air their reactions. Some lauded Araullo for braving the strong winds during the report, while others offered jokes comparing him to actress Bea Alonzo's character in the film "She's the One."

In the Star Cinema romantic-comedy, Alonzo's character is referred to as "the girl in the rain" in a viral video uploaded by an admirer played by actor Enrique Gil.

Several others, reacting to Araullo's report, also mentioned CNN carrying the same footage, with an anchor supposedly referring to him as a "brave man."

Shortly after the report aired on "TV Patrol," "Atom Araullo" became the No. 1 trending topic in the Philippines on Twitter, before making it to the worldwide trends.
