Freddie Roach OK with Manny Pacquiao becoming PBA Kia’s player-coach

Renowned trainer Freddie Roach said that he isn’t worried about Manny Pacquiao’s foray into the PBA on top of the Filipino boxing champion’s many activities outside the ring.

Pacquiao, now 35, officially became the playing coach of expansion team Kia Motors and the league’s oldest rookie after being selected 11th overall in the PBA Rookie Draft last Sunday.

Roach said that he just had to accept Pacquiao’s decision to add the PBA to his already busy schedule. The Filipino icon also serves as a congressman for Sarangani, while also dabbling on showbiz, product endorsements and his various business interests, to name a few.

“He’s always busy. I don’t think it’s a problem,” Roach said.

For their upcoming bout against Chris Algieri in Macau in November, Roach said that he asked Pacquiao to stop playing a month before the fight to avoid any serious injuries.

“We came to an agreement that four weeks before a fight he will stop playing because of injuries. We negotiated that deal a long time ago.”

Pacquiao will put his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title on the line against former kickboxer Algieri (20-0) on November 23 in Macau, the second fight of the Filipino icon in the Chinese gambling haven.
