It’s the manner of handling and making the best out of a situation in a smart and confident way. It’s about how we react and respond to the big life-changing challenges in your personal life or career.
To give you a clearer picture on what being a MAN of DISKARTE really means, I listed Top 5 Hard-Court #Diskarte that the top local and international basketball teams or players did to rise from being an underdog to a champion.
#5 DISKARTE: 2013 FIBA Asia Championship: Gilas Pilipinas ends the Korean Scare
In the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship held in Manila, The run of South Korea tormenting the Philippine team in basketball history is over. This was marked as ‘End of Korean Scare’. Gilas Pilipinas made a history by overcoming its fierce rival South Korean team 86-79 that earned them a final spot to the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship and booked them a berth to the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Gigantic South Korean team shows dominance over small men of Gilas in the first half, but instead of succumbing to the pressure of possibly playing without their naturalized player Marcus Douthit, Gilas Pilipinas, headed by Jayson William Castro, went wild in the third quarter. Castro carried the Philippine squad turning a three-point halftime deficit to a nine-point advantage heading into the fourth.
Gilas Pilipinas used their traditional yet still effective Hard Court #Diskarte. They relied in their traditional strengths of speed and outside shooting to a large extent. And it’s not a miracle that they won the hard-fought fight because they possess some of the speediest and sharpest shooters in the history of FIBA Asia Championships such as Jimmy Alapag, Jeffrei Chan, Ranidel de Ocampo and 2013 FIBA Asia Mythical 5 member Castro.
Gilas Pilipinas shot 50 percent for the game and survived a 6-17 difference in the free throw attempts. They out-rebounded their foes, 38-27, and got a 38-22 advantage in points in the paint.
#4 DISKARTE: 2014 Asian Games: South Korea stuns defending champion Iran
Host South Korea outlast defending champion Iran in the 2014 Asian Games Men’s basketball final, enduring an onslaught of pressure from the tournament favourites to emerge as 79-77 victors on their own home soil in Incheon, Korea.
Despite coming into the game as underdogs, South Korea took little time to let Iran know they had every intention of overcoming the odds and adding to their gold-medal tally. The hosts rode a wave of Iranian pressure en route to victory, losing the two middle quarters in what looked to be a fixture that would inevitably turn in Iran's favour.
The tournament favourites did manage to launch the beginnings of a comeback in the second quarter and reeled the hosts' lead back to six points by half-time, the score poised at 42-36 in South Korea's favor.
South Korea’s head coach Yoo’s Hard Court #Diskarte: PROPER & COMPREHENSIVE SCOUTING, KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT’ STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES & CREATING PLAYS THAT WILL TARGET THE HOLES OF IRAN’S DEFENSE. In other words, it’s preparing yourself and acknowledging that there’s a tough battle ahead of you in pursuit of your greatest dream.
Coach Yoo was quoted before the gold medal match against Iran "I know the Iran team quite well; they play a European style, so I think the final will be a tough game for us." And that familiarity certainly looked to be helping the tactician take down the Iranian threat.
South Korea started the match in a slow pace but in the end, they managed to find the rhythm and took the upper hand to gain advantage. They displayed their deadly shooting skills and relentless execution. They withstood a terrific performance from Iran captain Samad Nikkhah Bahrami, who led all scorers with 30 points in the game.
#3 DISKARTE: UAAP Season 77 Men’s Basketball: FEU dethrones De La Salle Green Archers
FEU Tamaraws outclassed defending champion De La Salle Green Archers in a dramatic 67-64 victory that advance them to the Finals of the UAAP Season 77 Men's basketball tournament, their first Finals appearance since Season 74, where they will take on the fourth-seeded National University (NU) Bulldogs.
With time winding down, Mac Belo received a perfect pass from point guard Mike Tolomia and let a three-pointer fly. The ball hit nothing but net, triggering a wild celebration among the Tamaraws and the sizable FEU crowd that filled half of the Araneta Coliseum.
Mike Tolomia’s made the perfect #DISKARTE, He burned the clock nearly all the way down and after analyzing the situation he is not open for shooting, despite his coach Nash Racela designed the last play especially for him, and so he passes it to his teammate Belo who responded by hitting the biggest shot of his career so far.
"'Yung last play was really designed for Mike, but in the end, he made the most important decision of his basketball career," said FEU coach Nash Racela after the game. "Hindi niya pinilit, he found Mac open, and we were so blessed that Mac hit two three-pointers in the last one minute." "(Belo) hit the biggest shot of the ballgame, but I think what's commendable was the fact that another guy made the pass," said Racela. "It was a team play, and that's what we always emphasize."
#2 DISKARTE: PBA Grand Slam: San Mig Coffee reigns!
It took 18 years for the Grand Slam to happen again. The San Mig Super Coffee Mixers broke through the history books and engraved their names beside the very best teams the PBA ever saw. With a 92-89 victory over the gallant Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, the Mixers defended their PBA Governors’ Cup title, won their fourth straight championship, and completed a rare PBA Grand Slam.
The Mixers were underdogs in their Finals series against Petron and Talk 'N Text. They were second favorite against Rain or Shine even if the Painters finished ahead of them in the eliminations. In total, the Mixers finished fifth, sixth, and fourth in the eliminations this 39th season of PBA League, so this was not exactly a dominant run (the Mixers had a perfect 9-0 in do-or-die games). But what most important is, Mixers knew how to win the games.
San Mig Super Coffee Mixers’ Hard Court #Diskarte? Guess what? It’s their TRIANGLE OFFENSE & DEFENSE. Since Time Cone has been appointed as San Mig Coffee head coach, he introduced to the team the Triangle Offense & Defence which involves a lot of passing of the ball until one player gets open to shoot the ball in the basket.
In addition to, San Mig Coffee conditioned their mind that in able to get that rare Grand slam is to conquer their greatest obstacle. It is good to note that in the past years, the Mixers seemed like they were afraid of the Painters. Even the members of Rain or Shine knew they had a mental advantage over them. But at some point in this game, the Mixers decided enough was enough. And they realized that if they wanted to be a great team, they need to take on their demons head on.
Most teams win one championship. San Mig Super Coffee Mixers won a Grand Slam. HAIL TO THE NEW KINGS!

Kobe Paras, the son of PBA Hall of Famer Benjie Paras, took home the slam dunk title in the FIBA Under-18 3×3 tournament following a spectacular stunt that saw him dunking over teammate Thirdy Ravena, who was sitting on a motorcycle. Paras made it to the semi-finals by doing a between-the-legs slam that earned a perfect score from the judges.
He was the youngest player in the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia but despite of his age he showed maturity and hops beyond his years, stamping the big windmill with authority and mesmerising the female audience to an uncontested win at the Honda Dunk contest final.
The 15-year-old Paras, a third year high school student at La Salle Greenhills, defeated Demonte Flannigan of the United States who hammered a nasty 360 but only collected bronze as he missed all three attempts to make his second dunk and Antonio Morales of Spain who struck silver with a few mean dunks including a difficult jam after a team-mate had completed a lay-up.
