Vera's experience and versatility were simply too much for his Ukrainian foe, who was dropped with a left straight to the face and got stopped with consecutive kicks to the head in front of Filipino mixed martial arts (MMA) fans at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena.

The victory was a Christmas gift of sort to his local fans, who have long waited to see The Truth in live action.

"Kamusta lahat? It's December, Maligayang Pasko!" Vera said in the post-fight interview.

Subora, who is based in the Philippines and is the reigning URCC heavyweight champion, stuck to his brawling ways by relying mainly on his heavy hands.

Vera gamely took on the challenge and answered with a variety of punches, legs kicks and elbows. Subora was already having success with his left hooks when the Fil-Am fired a straight left that sent the Ukrainian to the seat of his pants.

Smelling blood, Vera immediately fired a series of soccer kicks to Subora's head. The referee immediately stepped in and halted the fight 3:34 in the first round.

"Maraming salamat sa inyong pagpunta rito," Vera told his fans after his win. "To all my friends, family and all my fans, thank you so much!" he said.

The Truth thanked Subora for taking up the challenge, giving the Ukrainian props for his heavy punching.

"He likes to throw left hooks, so I threw a straight left and followed through. He went down and soccer kicks were allowed. Bam! I hit him. Bam! I hit him again! Until the referee said stop," he said.

Vera made no secret that he wants to become the ONE FC heavyweight champion.

The Fil-Am is 9-year UFC veteran and was once among the promotion's rising stars. After leaving the UFC, he signed up with ONE FC for the opportunity to fight in the Philippines.

In the main event, Bibiano Fernandes of Brazil successfully defended the ONE bantamweight crown by disposing a gritty Dae Hwan Kim in two rounds.

Fernandes pressed the action against the unorthodox Kim, constantly going for the takedown in the first round.

He engaged Kim in a striking match in the second round before shooting for another takedown. This time, he successfully got the Korean's back and forced Kim to tap out via rear-naked choke.
