The winningest coach in the history of the PBA will try to end the most popular team's championship drought as Tim Cone is reportedly set to move to Barangay Ginebra.
Sports website Spin.ph quoted San Miguel Corp. boss Ramon S. Ang himself, who confirmed that Cone is moving to Ginebra after four seasons in charge of the Purefoods franchise.
"Yes, Tim Cone is moving to Ginebra. He'll get his memo upon his return from the country," Ang told the sports website.
Star Hotshots assistant Jason Webb will be promoted to the top spot in the team.
Ginebra last won a title in the 2008 Fiesta Conference, while Cone led Purefoods to five championships, including a Grand Slam in the 2013-2014 season.
This means Frankie Lim is out after just one conference in charge of Ginebra, which saw the Gin Kings make the quarterfinals only to be eliminated by eventual finalists Alaska Aces.
Cone is expected to bring his triangle offense to Ginebra but Ang tells the team's passionate fans not to expect immediate results.
"Ginebra is expected to become a formidable team, but I would like to manage the expectations of the fans in the first two years," Ang said.
