Marc Pingris dropped by Gilas Pilipinas practice on Saturday afternoon to formally inform coach Tab Baldwin of his unavailability to suit up for the national team.
The Star Hotshots forward was teary-eyed as he talked to the American-Kiwi mentor at the Meralco Gym in Pasig City, getting emotional for his inability to serve the flag.
"Naintindihan naman ni coach yung rason ko. Mahal ko talaga 'yung Gilas kaso may mga bagay na hindi natin kontrolado," Pingris said.
He stayed for one hour to watch the practice before leaving, also getting the chance to talk to his former teammates Jimmy Alapag, Gary David, and Jayson Castro.
Pingris arrived from a trip to France on Wednesday and expected to show up at practice the following day, but he was only able to visit on Saturday.
The energetic big man wore the country's colors in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship and was an instrumental part of the Gilas squad that won the silver medal in the tournament.
Pingris also represented the Philippines in the FIBA World Cup last year, helping the country bag a historic win over Senegal in the group stage.
