Gilas Pilipinas’ Jayson Castro included in 2015 FIBA Asia MVP race (VIDEO)
2015 FIBA ASIA CHAMPIONSHIP: Following his consistent and superb showing all throughout the tournament, Philippine national men’s basketball team star guard Jayson Castro is currently in the running to win the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship MVP award.
“The Blur,” who was named to the Mythical Five in the 2013 edition of the tournament, earning him the accolade as the best point guard in Asia, is currently averaging 17.4 points, three rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 56.3 percent.
He has been the Gilas Pilipinas main gunner in the tournament, with his partnership with naturalized player Andray Blatche proving to be a formidable duo on the offensive end.
Castro exploded for 25 points in Gilas Pilipinas’ 72-60 win over Lebanon on Thursday in the quarterfinals. The Filipinos will next face Japan in the semifinals.
Another tournament MVP candidate announced so far is China’s Yi Jianlian, who has led the hosts to an unbeaten slate as of date.
Yi, a former NBA player who suited up for the New Jersey Nets and the Milwaukee Bucks, is averaging 18 points, eight rebounds and 1.6 assists per outing as China remains undefeated after eight games.
China will take on defending champion Iran in a mouthwatering clash in the other semifinal matchup.
