The National University (NU) Pep Squad has made it three-in-a row by claiming its third UAAP Cheerdance crown on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
NU successfully retained the title it first won in Season 76 by delivering a “caveman” routine, complete with fur and bone costumes, before the more than 25,000 spectators.
Aside from the bragging rights, the NU Pep Squad also took home P340,000, among several other prizes.
University of Sto. Tomas (UST) improved from its third-place finish last year by climbing a notch and securing second behind NU.
The UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe went back to its roots and delivered a dance-heavy number, doing away with the lavish and colorful props they utilized in previous performances.
UST also relegated rival University of the Philippines (UP) to third place by delivering a near-flawless performance.
Despite its visually-pleasing "Utak-Puso" number, the UP Pep Squad had to settle for second runner-up this year. Although UP had the best pyramid among the competing schools, this was not enough for them to win the crown.
UST and UP are the winning-est cheerdance squads in the league with eight titles each.
The two schools also took home special awards: UST was cited for the Fearless Jump award, while UP won the Best Toss and Fantastic Pyramid honors.
Adamson University was awarded for the Most Crazy Move, while Far Eastern University got the Surprising Move award.
