The media has jumped on the national team bandwagon. 

Stories from mainstream press and sports bloggers are trying to anticipate or even second-guess what the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas will do regarding forming a selection process for the next Philippine national basketball coach. All of a sudden, names are being thrown into the conversation, even those who are illogical choices, just to have a story. 

Former Philippine national men’s basketball team coach Chot Reyes has asked the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) selection committee not to include his name in the search for the next Gilas Pilipinas head coach.

Reyes was named head coach of the Gilas national team in 2012, his second stint as national team coach. Under him, the Philippines finished runner-up in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championships in Manila and qualified for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. The team also won the 2012 Jones Cup and picked up a bronze medal at the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel came out victorious in the first ‘Manila Clasico’ duel of the 40th PBA season after a 23-point win over Purefoods, 89-66, on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Joseph Yeo came up big in his first Ginebra-Purefoods clash, scoring a game-high 17 points, including five three-pointers, and dishing out five assists to lead Ginebra to a 4-1 recods.
