Roger Federer takes on Andy Murray at Wimbledon in the final of the Olympic tennis event with both men desperate to win a singles gold medal.

Will it be redemption for Murray ? Heartbroken after Federer crushed his dream in the Wimbledon final last month, the Brit now has the chance to put one over the great champion in the Olympic final and after beating Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the final, he will feel that this is his time.

However Federer has dreamed of winning Olympic singles gold ever since his childhood hero Marc Rosset did so at the Barcelona Olympic twenty years ago. The Swiss' dreams were dashed in Sydney, Athens and Beijing but he clung on to his chance of glory despite the best efforts of Juan Martin Del Potro in Friday's semi-finals. It was the longest match in Olympic history but Federer prevailed after four and a half hours.

"I've had some good wins against him and some tough losses," Murray told the press. "I will have learned from the Wimbledon match - I'll look and talk with my team about that match and the tactics for going into Sunday. I want to try to win. I don't think going into matches trying to get revenge for something that's happened in the past really helps. I think you need to try and focus on the future."

"It's going to be a tough match. I'll need to play great tennis to win. I hope it's a great match because the way the semi-finals went, the tournament deserves a great final. I hope we can provide that." 

However Federer could have a crucial edge due to the Olympic final being contested over best of five sets. Murray has never been able to beat the Swiss over the full distance, losing to him in the US Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon finals.
