Maybe now UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos will finally get the respect he’s long demanded. The unheralded Brazilian needed just 66 seconds to dispatch of fan-favorite Donald Cerrone in the fastest lightweight title defense in UFC history.
Dos Anjos (25-7 MMA, 14-5 UFC) now boasts a five-fight winning streak and is 10-1 in his last 11 bouts. The lone loss in that stretch came to Khabib Nurmamgomedov (22-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC), who is currently ranked No. 2 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA lightweight rankings and hopes to return to action in March or April as he recovers from a knee injury. Cerrone (28-7 MMA, 15-4 UFC) sees an eight-fight winning streak snapped.
