Philippine Azkals vs Kyrgyzstan Football Match Cancelled

The Philippine Football Federation has cancelled the Philippine Azkals’ supposed match against Kyrgyzstan in June because of the logistical problems they faced on getting to the Central Asian nation.

PFF general secretary Ed Gastanes told InterAKTV that the match was called off due to their inability to search for “good flights” and the “booking difficulties” they faced for arranging the friendly.

The Azkals were initially scheduled to play Kyrgyzstan in its capital Bishkek on June 8 in a match which could have pitted the two squads for the first time in an international friendly.

World governing body FIFA has acknowledged the development after removing the match on the Azkals’ official fixtures posted on its website.

“Philippines informed us via fax that they would like to cancel the match versus Kyrgyzstan,” FIFA wrote in an email to InterAKTV.

The Azkals still has one scheduled match next month against Hong Kong on June 4.

The matches are part of the Azkals’ preparations for the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup in Maldives next year, where the Filipinos aim to surpass their third-place finish in the same tournament last year.
