Juan Manuel Marquez, appearing for the first time before Mexican media in Mexico City, reiterated that a fifth fight with Manny Pacquiao no longer gives him a sense of excitement.
Marquez is set to face Tim Bradley on October 12 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas and the Mexican hero who knocked Pacquiao out cold in the sixth round last year, is going on a different direction.
“I showed everyone who is the better fighter (when I beat him by knockout last year). So I don’t see the point in facing him for the fifth time,” said Marquez in Spanish when grilled at the Romanza Gym owned and operated by Hall of Fame trainer Ignacio Beristain.
Pacquiao had offered Marquez, who turns 40 this August, a whopping $13 million to face him for the fifth time in Macau but Marquez turned it down and instead took on a lighter assignment in the glass-jawed Bradley.
Marquez is expected to get past Bradley without much trouble.
But you’ll never know in boxing, noted Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, whose Top Rank Inc. promotes both fighters.
If Pacquiao bounces back with an impressive win over Brandon Rios on November 24 in Macau, he would likely crave for the winner of the Marquez-Bradley tiff.
