Greg Slaughter to join PBA Draft in November; No.1 overall pick?

Greg Slaughter, the 7-foot center who is part of the Philippine national men’s basketball pool, confirmed that he will enter the PBA draft this November.

“Yeah, that’s the next step,” Slaughter told InterAKTV in an exclusive interview during national team practice.

“After FIBA Asia, I’m going to apply for the PBA draft. That would be in November so that is still days ahead.”

Slaughter started his Philippine career at University of the Visayas before later transferring to Ateneo de Manila University, helping the Blue Eagles win back-to-back UAAP titles. He was also part of the first incarnation of the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team under coach Rajko Toroman.

He joined NLEX in the PBA D-League last October, helping the Road Warriors win the Aspirants Cup in February.

Slaughter is tabbed as a potential No. 1 overall pick along with former NLEX teammate Ian Sangalang. The big man said he is continuously training to get ready for the next level.

“I’ve been working with Coach Andrei (Tolentino). He’s our fitness coach with Ateneo and Talk ‘N Text. We’ve been working with him, trying to get ready,” said Slaughter.

“I’m also going to school trying to finish as much as I can, then try to become a professional player. The PBA is where the big boys play.”
