PBA: Barako's import Mike Singletary declares "We're no joke"

Barako Bull import Mike Singletary was full of energy after his team’s win against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on Friday night, their third straight victory in the PBA Governors’ Cup.

“They think we’re a joke?” Singletary asked rookie point guard Emman Monfort as they hugged and exchanged high fives.

Singletary finished with 38 points — the third time in four games that he scored at least that much — and grabbed 17 rebounds, completely outplaying Ginebra counterpart Dior Lowhorn. The victory gave Barako Bull a tie for the top spot in the team standings along with Petron.

“But really, we’re no joke man,” Singletary told InterAKTV in an exclusive interview. “I know a lot of people have said that we’re kinda filler team. We kinda have some of the older players, guys that other teams don’t want. But that’s fine with us.

“We have guys that are playing well with the system and wanted to win. That’s the biggest thing.”

Barako coaching consultant Rajko Toroman said his players are out to prove doubters wrong.

“We lost some of the players, we had some injuries, but what people didn’t know was that we’re working hard for three months,” said Toroman.

Indeed, Barako Bull began its buildup for the conference early, traveling to Dubai along with Singletary to get a headstart on its PBA campaign.

“We were working our butts off early. Now we’re starting to get good results from it,” said forward Danny Seigle.

Mick Pennisi said people were underestimating them from the start.

“But we’ve been working hard. We had an early preseason. Players are now used to our offense and defense. Now, we’ve won three straight. We just have to continue working hard,” said Pennisi.
