The World Boxing Organization (WBO) may order rivals Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez to fight each order for a fifth time if both boxers triumph in their upcoming fights.
Marquez will challenge unbeaten American Timothy Bradley Jr. for the WBO welterweight title on October 12 in Las Vegas, while Pacquiao will take on Brandon Rios for the WBO international welterweight title on November 24 in Macau.
“If Marquez and Pacquiao both win, the World Boxing Organization regulations would view the Filipino as the challenger to Juan Manuel,” WBO president Francisco Valcarcel told Boxing Scene
Pacquiao and Marquez have already fought four times, with the first three bouts ending in controversial decisions. But in their fourth fight last December 2012, Marquez knocked out Pacquiao with just one second left in the sixth round to finally earn a decisive victory.
Since then, “Dinamita” has repeatedly said he is no longer interested in taking on Pacquiao for a fifth time.
Valcarcel said the bout will ultimately be up to Pacquiao and Marquez.
“If both win, the bout between them would be ready, but of course, the fighters have the last word,” he said.
