Iran's Samad Bahrami to make his Chinese league (CBA) debut

Samad Nikkah Bahrami an overwhelming choice as Asia’s best small forward will make his debut in the high-profile Chinese Basketball Association league this year after Iranian spearhead signed with Fujian as its Asian import.

Iran's Samad Bahrami to make his Chinese league (CBA) debut

Zaid Abbas of the neighboring Jordan has already signed with Tianjin, making Bahrami the second high profile Asian signing in the CBA this year. Each of the lower ranked teams are eligible to sign an additional Asian import apart from the regular two import rule in the CBA.

Tianjin finished one place above the last and Fujian 13th in the CBA Regular Season last year, both failing to make the play-offs.

Bahrami’s signing leaves Fujian with the most dazzling Asian line-up so far in the CBA with China’s very own young sensation Wang Zhelin being the starting center.

At the 27th FIBA Asia Championship at Manila (Philippines) in August, Bahrami logged 12.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game as Iran went on to win their third FIBA Asia Championship en route to booking their ticket to 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup to be played in Spain from Aug 30-Sept 14 next year.

Wang Zhelin was one of the rare bright sparks in an otherwise disastrous campaign for China – when the team failed to medal only for the second time in their history of participation in FIBA Asia Championship – with an average of 10.2 points and 6 rebounds per game.
