What's next for NU's Ray Parks? PBA Rookie Draft or D-League?
National University (NU) superstar Bobby Ray Parks needs time to think about his next move after he and the Bulldogs were ousted by the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 76 tournament.
The Bulldogs were the top-seeded team and had twice-to-beat advantage, but they ran into an inspired UST team who made history by becoming the first fourth-seed in the Final Four era to topple the No. 1 team.
“It sucks to lose,” a subdued Parks told reporters after they lost 69-76 to UST last Saturday. “But hey, they showed up, they played tough, and they played their type of basketball. So congratulations to them.”
Parks, a two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player, was asked about his plans for the future, but the son of seven-time PBA Best Import Bobby Parks said he has yet to decide.
“I’m not sure,” Parks said. “I’ve got some thinking to do.”
Parks said he is “not sure yet” if he will play in the PBA D-League, noting that declaring for the PBA Rookie Draft is still an option.
“I just want to take time off,” he said. “See where it goes from there. Probably train in the States, but I don’t know.”
But Parks’ ultimate goal is still to play in the NBA and he believes that it’s still something he can achieve.
“That’s really my goal and my dream. I’ll try to work on that. But I just have to sit down and really just find my way out first,” he said.
Parks scored 15 points against UST, but was visibly bothered again by the physical defense of the Tigers’ wing players, especially Kevin Ferrer. He had two assists early in the fourth frame that allowed the Bulldogs to briefly take the lead, but could not take control of the ballgame when UST reeled off 12 straight points late in the final period.
It is the second consecutive season that NU had lost to UST in the Final Four.
