Bobby Ray Parks out of 2013 PBA Draft due to ineligibility
AFTER weeks of speculation, National University star Bobby Ray Parks has made it known he is not joining next month’s PBA rookie draft.
Charlie Dy, Parks’ representative, said on Monday the decision was made easier for the Bulldogs star since he failed to satisfy the PBA draft requirements for rookie applicants, prompting the two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player to consider other options.
“Ray-ray is turning 21 only on February 19, then ga-graduate siya March next year pa so hindi pa siya eligible for the PBA draft,” told Dy
To be eligible for the draft, applicants must be 21 or has graduated from college.
Dy, who handles PBA players like Chris Ellis of Barangay Ginebra and San Mig guard Alex Mallari as well as Globalport veteran Jay Washington, said the son of legendary PBA import Bobby Parks, Sr. will play for the Bulldogs in the Guam Invitation Tournament slated on October 22-28.
Parks will also play for the Banco de Oro-backed NU squad in the PBA D-League set late this year and suit up for the Gilas team bound for the Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar if picked.
Once Parks earns his college degree in Informational Technology next March, Dy said Parks will fly to the United States for further training in his pursuit to play in the NBA.
“After graduation, he plans to train in the US. Pinagpa-planuhan na namin yung US niya,” added Dy.
Should the US training push through, Parks won’t be able play in the UAAP next season with the Bulldogs.
Just a fews back, No. 1 seed NU wasted its twice-to-beat incentive after being beaten by fourth-seeded University of Santo Tomas in the Final Four.
With Parks out of the picture in the annual rookie draft set on November 3 at Robinson’s Place Malate, top rookie prospects like seven-footer Greg Slaughter, former NCAA MVP Ian Sangalang as well as Letran Knight center Raymund Almazan now have a lock on the top three rookie picks.
Barangay Ginebra will be picking first by virtue of its previous transaction with Air21, which, last weekend, won the No. 1 pick in a lottery over Globalport.
San Mig will pick second with a pick acquired from Globalport while Rain or Shine owns the No. 3 pick.
