Freddie Roach appeals to Pacquiao's PBA rivals: "Please take care of Manny"

Boxing coach Freddie Roach may have allowed his ward Manny Pacquiao to play basketball on PBA opening day, but this doesn’t mean he isn’t concerned about what may happen on the hardcourt.
Freddie Roach appeals to Pacquiao's PBA rivals: "Please take care of Manny"
"Any kind of injury that can postpone or completely cancel his fight can mean the end of his boxing career and all the years he's been in this profession of choice," Roach said in an interview with Philboxing’s Eddie Alinea.
Which is why Roach has appealed to Pacquiao’s defenders when the boxing superstar suits up for KIA Sorento against Blackwater Elite on Sunday.

"I know how tough and sometimes rough basketball games here are and all I beg his would-be rivals is to please to take care of Manny,” Roach said.

“You can block his shots, steal the ball away, but please don't hurt him, if you, indeed, treasure him as your boxing icon," he stressed.

Pacquiao had a hard time getting past Chris Timberlake and Sunday Salvacion during KIA’s pre-season game against Blackwater, where he scored only one point.

Other PBA players have already voiced their readiness to guard the eight-division champion.

“The concession is that if Pacquiao can really play, well and good. If not, he can expect the toughest baptism of fire in his life,” said Gary David of the Meralco Bolts. “Basketball 'yan alangan namang pabayaan mo lang siya tumira o sumalaksak sa harap mo. Siya ang rookie, ako ang beterano. Hindi ako matatakot na laruin ang laro ko sa kanya,” warned Rain or Shine’s Beau Belga.
