2012 Solar Eclipse Video: Sun & Moon creates "Ring of Fire" effect

Solar Eclipse is a rare astronomical event and on Sunday, May 20 (Monday in Manila), the sun and moon aligned over the earth that dimmed the skies over parts of Asia and North America creating a blazing “ring of fire” effect.

Solar Eclipses occur almost every year but what happened on Sunday is called the annular solar eclipse wherein the sun and moon create a creepy awesome “ring of fire” effect. This kind of eclipse is rare and the last time that it occurred was wayback in 1994. According to scientists, the next one will occur in 2023 so that’s more than a decade from now.

NASA Space Scientist Jeffrey Newmark said an annular eclipse occurs when the moon’s orbit closer to the sun allowing it to block 90% of the sun rays leaving two orbs slide that makes it look like a “ring of fire.”

Jessica Sanchez & Phillip Phillips Made It to American Idol 11 Finale

16-years old Jessica Sanchez and 21-years old Phillip Phillips made it to the American Idol 11 Finale which will be held on May 22, 2012 (May 23: Manila Time).

I was happy and a bit shocked this morning when I heard the news.

Happy because Jessica who also has Filipino descent reached the show finale and vying for the Idol Title. (feel so proud that Filipino blood is also running in my veins). :)

Shocked because Idol Judges Favorite and Front-runner Joshua Ledet has been voted off in the American Idol Season 11. I don't like Joshua but yesterday I predicted that it's Phillip who will be eliminated, which I based it on their performance last night. [watch/read here]

Well, Phillip should feel so lucky tonight because it's not him that bids goodbye. Congrats Jessica and Phillip!

Manny Pacquaio vs US Pres. Barack Obama on Same Sex Marriage

MANILA - US President Barack Obama's backing of same-sex marriage has called out a heavyweight opponent: Philippine congressman and world boxing champion, Manny Pacquiao.

In an interview with Examiner.com, in his Los Angeles home last week, the WBO welterweight champion stressed: "God's words first."

He also said people should "just believe" what the Bible says.

"God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally married, only if they so are in love with each other," the Examiner quoted Pacquiao. "It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of Old."

He also said that the US should set a tone on morality for other nations to follow.

Pacquiao said blocking the legalization of same-sex marriage should begin in the "high offices" of the US government themselves.

On the same day as his interview, Pacquiao participated in a Bible study session. He recently turned his back on gambling and drinking, and rekindled his faith.

After his June 9 bout with American Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas, he plans to hold a preaching session "open to all religions."

Pacquiao is also known for his stance against a Reproductive Health Bill in the Philippines.

Jessica Sanchez leads Idol Top 3 in Online Fanbase

MANILA, Philippines - If the fanbase in social media would be the basis for winning the American Idol contest, then Filipino-Mexican bet Jessica Sanchez is sure to win by a big leap.

Two weeks before the finale of the American hit singing competition, remaining Top 3 contestants Sanchez, Joshua Ledet, and Phillip Phillips are left to vie for the title in the show's 11th season.

And based on online fans and followers, Sanchez, the remaining female contestant in the competition, is edging out her two male competitors.

Facebook.
In Facebook, Sanchez got more fanpage dedicated to her than the other two contestants. Some of these pages even exceeded the thousand mark for "likes".

As for the Top 3's official Facebook fanpages, Sanchez still leads in terms of number of "likes." Her page has with than 191,000 likes - far from the 72,000 likes in Phillips's fanpage, and from 51,000 likes in Ledet's fanpage.

These official Facebook fanpages help boost votes for the candidates. Each fanpage links to an app where voters can cast their votes online. Voting is being opened for at least a day at the end of every performance night. The following day, the contestants who garner the highest votes stay in the competition, while the one with the lowest votes is eliminated.

Twitter.
On the microblogging site Twitter, Sanchez also leads the fanbase race. Searching the name of Sanchez would yield to a longer list of pages dedicated to her than the other two contestants.

China TV 'claims' the Philippines is part of China's territory

Beijing — An anchor on China's state-run television network has accidentally declared the Philippines a part of China, in an embarrassing gaffe as tensions between the two nations run high.

He Jia, anchor for China Central Television's (CCTV) nationally televised news broadcast, made the claim during a late Monday broadcast that has been repeatedly replayed on the Internet.

The presenter apparently meant to say that the Huangyan islands – known in the Philippines as the Scarborough Shoal, and claimed by both nations – is China's territory.

"We all know that the Philippines is China's inherent territory and the Philippines belongs to Chinese sovereignty, this is an indisputable fact," He said in the broadcast, which has since disappeared from the CCTV website but is available elsewhere on the web.

Viewers joked in online postings that the presenter's nationalistic fervour led to her mistake.

"This anchor woman is great, a good patriot, she has announced to the world the the Philippines belongs to China," said a microblogger named helenjhuang.

"We should attack directly, send (Philippine President Benigno) Aquino packing and take back our inherent territory."

Video of Raymart Santiago - Mon Tulfo fight in NAIA now on YouTube

MANILA, Philippines – The scuffle between journalist Mon Tulfo and actor Raymart Santiago on Sunday has been caught on video and uploaded on the video-sharing site YouTube.

The 59-second video posted by glamchiq00 showed Santiago charging at Tulfo and people trying to stop the fist fight.

The video was uploaded after news broke out earlier in the afternoon about the incident.

Both Tulfo and Santiago were among the top trending topics on microblogging site Twitter because of the incident.

Santiago’s wife, actress Claudine Barretto, said she is challenging Tulfo to show the video which he claims caught her scolding the airport staff. Barretto also appealed to airport authorities to release the CCTV footage to determine who really started the brawl between Tulfo and her husband.

The amateur video was immediately shared on other social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook.

“I don't know what happened, but from this video, mas hinawakan at inawat si Mon Tulfo ng mga guards than Raymart Santiago. Walang pumigil kay Raymart sa pagsuntok niya kay Mon Tulfo while Tulfo was held down by the airport guards,” journalist Joel Pablo Salud said on Facebook.

'Phil So Good' - Julien Drolon feat. Rhian Ramos (with lyrics)

The 'Phil So Good' music video starting to become viral over the web. The music video starring a Frenchman singing about his love for our country, The Philippines, catches the attention of netizens over the web.

The music video was shot on location across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. It shows Drolon basking in the sun on various beaches in the country and extolling, in French and English, this "paradise on earth". Also seen in the music video is our very own Filipina Actress Rhian Ramos who did the rapping part of the song.

While the music is an upbeat mix of funk, reggae and dance pop, and lends a cosmopolitan touch to the tropical scenarios. It is composed by French writer-turned-musician Julien Drolon

According to his interview with Philippine Daily InquirerDrolon described the Philippines as the land of music in Asia. He also added that in France they don't live music the way Filipinos do.

Drolon has so far recorded six songs with an all-Filipino lineup of musicians that also serve as his regular band, including keyboardist Leal Nanca, who wrote the rap lyrics to "Phil So Good." Drolon has also worked with Noel Mendez, Jack Rufo, Rico Blanco and the band Brownman Revival.

'PHIL SO GOOD' English/Tagalog Lyrics

Paradise islands, white sand beach
Tropical jungles where tribes still live
Land of Rizal and the guitar strings
Gotta find some time to live it here

I am in the Philippines x 3
And I feel so good, so good

Jessica Sanchez sings "Proud Mary" on American Idol Top 5 Show

Jessica Sanchez - Proud Mary

Filipina-Mexican-American Jessica Sanchez sang “You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker and “Proud Mary” by Tina Turner on the American Idol 11 Top 5 Performance Show.

I prefer Jessica's "Proud Mary" performance than her "You Are So Beautiful" rendition. Because on that performance she shows that she is not just a singer...that she can groove 'cause she is a total performer. #kudos!

And I totally agree when Jennifer Lopez said to her that she's a little bit of Tina and a little bit of Beyonce.

Open Letter to Miriam Quiambao

"Homosexuality is not a sin but it is a lie from the devil. Do not be deceived. God loves gays and wants them to know the truth." - Miriam Quiambao says on Twitter. And that particular tweet draws so much attention and makes people especially LGBT community to raise their eyebrows to the former Beauty Queen.

Ms. Quiambao already says sorry but LGBT group seems not accepting her apology yet.

Open Letter to Miriam Quiambao: Let's defend every word in the Bible!

Dear Miriam Quiambao,

Congratulations on standing up for the truth given by God in the Bible! Literally interpreting the Bible is what we should really do. The word of God is the word of God. Those who believe in God shouldn't doubt the Bible: each word in the Bible, each punctuation mark, each syllable was written by the owner and creator of the universe, period. I love your zealous and unwavering faith that everything that the Bible says is true and that we should follow it.

I know that we should take the Bible as it is. There's no doubt that God forbids cross-dressing; Deuteronomy 22:5 says that. Leviticus 18:22 implies that homosexuality is an abomination to God's eyes as well. But I'm having some problems with other verses in the Bible. Please help me with what to do about them because, just like you, I want to live my life in accordance with the word of God.

1. According to Genesis, God only created men and women. Nothing else, no one in between. Just either men or women. Now, Genesis 1:5 says that God created only evening and morning. There was no mention about afternoon, dusk, dawn, midnight, the blue hour, etc. As a literal follower of the Bible, how should I regard these "other" parts of the day? To borrow your own words, are they the "lies of the devil?" Why do we have these abominations? Is God testing my faith?

Jessica Sanchez sings 'Dance With My Father' on American Idol 11 Top 6 Show

Jessica Sanchez once again wowed me (and hopefully you too) with her own rendition of "Dance With My Father' originally sang by Luther Vandross during the American Idol 11 Top 6 Performance Show

Her performance was really full of emotions and you can feel it through her voice and see it on Jessica’s action on how she misses her father so badly. In short, Jessica owned the song and performed it so naturally.

Anyway, Jessica still needs your vote for her not to be eliminated tomorrow. You only have 2 hours to vote after the show.

Here's How to Vote:

In the US,
(1) You can vote for Jessica Sanchez by calling 1-866-IDOLS-01 (1-866-436-5701)
(2) Text “VOTE” to 5705.

Instagram Sold By Facebook For $1 Billion

According to Forbes News, Instagram, a photo-sharing apps for Apple Products and Androids, was bought by Facebook according to a message posted by Mark Zuckerberg. The purchase price of $1 billion will be paid in cash and Facebook shares.

Here's what Mark Zuckerberg said on his blog post:

"I'm excited to share the news that we've agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.

For years, we've focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we'll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.

We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram's strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.

That's why we're committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.

We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keepingfeatures like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.

"Ang Pag-ibig ay para lang sa mga taong matatapang."

"Those who are faithful know only the trivial side of love: it is the faithless who know love's tragedies."

“Kung maghihintay ka nang lalandi sayo, walang mangyayari sa buhay mo.. Dapat lumandi ka din."

Single Awareness Month

Pebrero na naman. Ang buwan na pinaka-ayaw ng mga single sa kadahilanan na puputaktihin na naman sila (sila lang?) ng mga katanungan tungkol sa kung sino valentines' date nila at kung bakit single sila.
This is also the EMO Month ng mga single. Yung haharap sila sa salamin tapos tatanungin nila yung sarili nila:

'Panget ba ako? Bakit walang nagkakagusto sa akin? Bakit wala akong GF/BF? Bakit yung mga kaibigan ko may syota ako wala? Bakeeeeettt?!! '

Tapos meron rin mga single na pipilitin nilang magka-GF/BF before Valentines  para masabi lang na may-date sila...para masabing IN sila.. HAHA

Indeed...Its' more fun in the Philippines.

After a much-criticized 'Pilipinas Kay Ganda' and a mediocre design of 'Pilipinas Tara Na!', Department of Tourism headed by Ramon Jimenez, Jr. launched a new brand campaign to attract visitors to the country with the line - It’s more fun in the Philippines’

If you will look at the design it is far far far better than the ‘Pilipinas Tara Na!’ design and brainier than the ‘Pilipinas Kay Ganda’.

Trending Quotations of 2011

2011 is coming to a close.  So, the better way to end this year is to list down all the memorable lines that TV personalities have thrown on National TV. Their unforgettable lines that made them trending and become talk of the town. (in no particular order)

Atty. Ferdinand Topacio: "Ipatatanggal ko ang itlog ko kapag 'di bumalik ang mga Arroyo"

Christopher Lao: "I should have been informed. Dapat ininform. 'yun lang 'yun eh."

James Soriano: “Filipino was the language of the streets: it was how you spoke to the tindera when you went to the tindahan, what you used to tell your katulong that you had an utos, and how you texted manong when you needed ‘sundo na.’”
