This time, Iran made sure there would be no magical comeback from Chinese Taipei.

Behind the brilliant quarterbacking of Mahdi Kamrani, Iran cruised to a 79-60 victory over Chinese Taipei in the semifinals of the FIBA Asia Championship on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Chinese Taipei marched to the semifinals of the FIBA Asia Championship and did it in spectacular fashion, coming back from 17 points down for a historic 96-78 victory over defending champion China.

“Incredible game, magic day,” said Chinese Taipei coach Hsu Chin-Che.

The Taiwanese defeated their cross-strait rivals for the first time ever in the Asian championship. China, the highest-ranked team in Asia, is the defending champion and has won the title a record 15 times.

When it comes to bringing tears to the eyes of Filipino fans, the most dramatic Koreanovelas have nothing on the South Korean national basketball team.

South Korea has been responsible for the most pain for the Philippine team when it comes to international basketball. The Philippines has not won against South Korea in a high-level basketball match since the 1985 Asian Basketball Championship.

FIBA Asia Championship 2013 for Men is the intercontinental championship for basketball organized by FIBA Asia that serves as the qualifying tournament for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.

Gary David fired a tournament-high 22 points to lead Gilas Pilipinas to an easy 88-58 destruction of Kazakhstan to advance to the semifinals of the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship.
