FIBA Asia will no longer the qualifier for World Cup, Olympics
Starting 2017, the FIBA-Asia Championships will no longer be the qualifier for either the Olympics or World Cup as it is transformed from a biennial competition to a once-in-four-years conclave as a stand-alone continental tournament.
This year’s FIBA-Asia Championships marked the last World Cup qualifier and the 2015 edition will be the last Olympic qualifier for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.

Closer look to the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship Mythical Five
The games are done. The championship has been awarded to Iran for the third time in the last four years. And the individual awards have been handed out.
Named to the Mythical Five Selection of the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship were: Jason Castro, Kim Min Goo, Lin Chih-Chieh, Oshin Sahakian and Hamed Hadadi. Let’s take a look at how they did.
Iran's Haddadi: "best team we played is the Philippines"
Iran won its third FIBA Asia Men's Basketball crown on Sunday night but had to face a determined Gilas Pilipinas squad in the championship game at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Iran wound up winning 85-71 but faced several tense moments, especially in the first half as Gilas, despite playing without center Marcus Douthit, managed to remain within striking distance.

FIBA Asia 2013: Gilas Pilipinas vs Iran Full Game Replay Video
The Philippine national men’s basketball team battled gallantly before succumbing to basketball powerhouse Iran, 85-71, in the title game of the FIBA Asia Championship.
Gilas Pilipinas had to settle for a silver medal, the country’s best finish since winning the Asian title in 1985.

Gilas Pilipinas settles for silver medal; Iran wins Gold
Goliath beats David. Iran proved to be too big for Gilas Pilipinas to conquer as the West Asian nation downed the home team, 85-71, to win the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship gold medal on Sunday night, August 11 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Iranians went to veteran big man Hamed Haddadi often and were successful in taking the title for the 3rd time in the last 4 editions of the biennial meet.
FLASH BACK: When Philippines ruled Asian basketball
Before the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) was the center of the Filipino’s cage universe, there were two Asian competitions which hogged the headlines. The first was the Asian Games, held every 4 years, and the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC), held every 2 years.
The Philippines was the best basketball nation in Asia, and a 7th placer in the 1956 Olympics. The country’s dominance was keyed by the imposing Carlos Loyzaga, who was matchless at both ends of the court.

Behind the brilliant quarterbacking of Mahdi Kamrani, Iran cruised to a 79-60 victory over Chinese Taipei in the semifinals of the FIBA Asia Championship on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Chinese Taipei marched to the semifinals of the FIBA Asia Championship and did it in spectacular fashion, coming back from 17 points down for a historic 96-78 victory over defending champion China.
“Incredible game, magic day,” said Chinese Taipei coach Hsu Chin-Che.
The Taiwanese defeated their cross-strait rivals for the first time ever in the Asian championship. China, the highest-ranked team in Asia, is the defending champion and has won the title a record 15 times.

FIBA Asia Championship 2013 Finals Schedule
The FIBA Asia Championship 2013 schedule for Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals has been announced. Quarterfinals will take place on August 9, Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City, Manila, Philippines.
Teams that will advance to Quarterfinals round are the Top 4 teams from Group E and Group F.
GROUP E - #1 Philippines, #2 Chinese Taipei, #3 Qatar and #4 Jordan.
GROUP F - #1 Iran, #2 South Korea, #3 China and #Kazakhstan.

Gary David fired a tournament-high 22 points to lead Gilas Pilipinas to an easy 88-58 destruction of Kazakhstan to advance to the semifinals of the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship.

Gilas Pilipinas advances to semis; destroys Kazakhstan
The Philippine national men’s basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas, rode on a hot start for a rousing 88-58 victory in the quarterfinals of the FIBA Asia Championship 2013 on Friday.
With the victory, Gilas Pilipinas marched into the final four of the tournament, which serves as qualifier to the FIBA World Cup. The Philippines only needs to win one of its last two games to book its first appearance in the world basketball stage in four decades.
Chinese Taipei upsets defending champion China
Chinese Taipei rallied from a big first-half deficit to defeat China, 96-78, in the quarterfinals of the FIBA Asia Championship on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
It was the first victory ever in the Cross-Strait matchup for Chinese Taipei in the Asian basketball championship.
And it came at the biggest juncture of the this year’s tournament, as the Taiwanese booked a spot in the final four while eliminating their mainland rivals.
