Gilas Pilipinas loss to South Korea,82-70, in Jones Cup 2015 - (FULL GAME REPLAY VIDEO)

The Gilas Pilipinas, Philippine national men’s basketball team hung tough for three quarters but ran out of steam in the fourth quarter against fierce Asian rivals South Korea, 82-70, as it was handed its first loss in the 37th Williams Jones Cup on Monday in New Taipei City, Taiwan.

Playing without naturalized player Andray Blatche, Gilas Pilipinas kept in pace with Korea before allowing a 13-0 run in the final period that saw them go down by as much as 11 points, 69-58, with 4:16 remaining.

Gilas Pilipinas loses 'must-win' game to South Korea 97-95 (VIDEO) - Asian Games 2014

Gilas Pilipinas lost their do-or-die game against the accurate-shooting South Koreans in the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea on Saturday.

It was another heart-breaking defeat as the Filipinos lost only by 2 points, 97-95, a day after getting beaten by Qatar in their first quarterfinal joust.

Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes believes the Philippine national basketball team deserves to be higher than No. 31 in the latest edition of the FIBA World Rankings (READ STORY HERE), especially after its performances in the past three FIBA tournaments.
Gilas rose three spots to No. 31 after their historic run in the FIBA World Cup in Spain. The news came just before the team is set to leave for Incheon, South Korea to play in the Asian Games.

FIBA Asia 2013: South Korea vs Malaysia Full Game Replay

Malaysia finished with its best result in the preliminary round of the FIBA Asia Championship, falling to South Korea by a mere 22 points, 80-58, on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.


The Malaysians were victims of extremely lopsided results in their first two outings against Iran and China, the winners of the last seven editions of the Asian tournament. Iran battered Malaysia, 115-25, on opening day before China did the same thing with a 113-22 scoreline.

Fresh from a whirlwind scouting trip that took him to two Asian countries, Gilas Pilipinas assistant coach Norman Black has listed defending champion China, Iran, and South Korea as the three teams to beat in the FIBA Asia Men’s Championship in two weeks' time.

The multi-titled coach travelled all the way to Guangzhou, China for the Fiba Stankovic Cup, primarily to take a closer look at the Chinese team under renowned former Greek national coach Panagiotis Giannakis.
