UAAP 78: UP shocks La Salle for first 2-0 start in 10 years
The University of the Philippines (UP) proved that its victory over University of the East (UE) last Saturday was no fluke when it turned back De La Salle University, 71-66, at the UAAP men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday.
The Maroons dominated the Green Archers in the first three quarters and quelled La Salle’s uprising in the final period to post their second win of the season.

De la Salle shrugged off a late scare to survive National University, 67-63, and jumpstart its UAAP Season 78 campaign on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Green Archers saw their double-digit lead almost disappear no thanks to the defending champion Bulldogs’ trademark suffocating defense, but proved steady down the stretch to hold on for the hard-earned victory.

The Gilas Pilipinas, Philippine national men’s basketball capped their campaign in the 37th William Jones Cup with a 96-67 rout of host Chinese Taipei’s B-team that clinched the silver medal for Gilas Pilipinas on Sunday at the Xinzhuang Gym in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
Gary David scored 22 points to pace Gilas Pilipinas, which finished with a 6-2 record, good enough for second place behind champions Iran.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas remained hopeful Fil-Am NBA player Jordan Clarkson will be able to join Gilas Pilipinas in its campaign in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship slated Sept. 23-Oct. 3 in Changsha, China.
“It’s still a work in progress but with better clarity,” said SBP vice chairman Ricky Vargas after a meeting with Los Angeles Lakers team president Jeanie Buss and general manager Mitch Kupchak in LA.

The Ateneo Lady Eagles outshone the National University Lady Bulldogs in a thrilling four-set duel, 15-25, 25-19, 25-21, and 25-23, to formalize its claim on the No. 1 spot in the Final Four of the Shakey's V-League Season 12 Collegiate Conference on Saturday at the San Juan Arena.
The Lady Eagles blew a three-point lead late in the fourth set, but fought back from 17-20 down behind Alyssa Valdez, Amy Ahomiro, and Bea de Leon to notch their seventh straight win.
