With only one playdate remaining in the PBA Governors’ Cup elimination round, the playoffs are almost underway. But the results of the two remaining games will still have major implications on the playoff picture.

Here are the possible scenarios for the playoffs depending on Sunday’s games.

SCENARIO 1: Air 21 wins over Alaska, Ginebra wins over Talk ‘N Text

This scenario will lead to a straightforward playoff picture, with no knockout games necessary.

SCENARIO 2A: Air 21 wins over Alaska, Talk ‘N Text wins over Ginebra by less than 22 points

In the case of wins by Air 21 and Talk ‘N Text, a triple-tie for eighth place will between the Express, the Tropang Texters, and the Gin Kings.

Air 21 has an inferior quotient after losing to Ginebra (106-93) and winning over Talk ‘N Text (106-102).

The only way for Air 21 to move out of third in the tiebreak quotient is if Talk ‘N Text beats Ginebra by at least 22 points — an unlikely scenario considering the Tropang Texters have not won by more than seven points this conference.

SCENARIO 2B: Air 21 wins over Alaska, Talk ‘N Text wins over Ginebra by 22 points or more

If Talk ‘N Text defies the odds and beats Ginebra by at least 22 points, the Gin Kings will be eliminated.

SCENARIO 3: Alaska wins over Air 21, Ginebra wins over Talk ‘N Text

Alaska can force a playoff for fourth place by winning over Air 21, while Ginebra can get into the playoffs trouble-free with a win over Talk ‘N Text. In case of a three-way tie for third place, Meralco wins out owing to superior quotient, leaving it to the Aces and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to battle for fourth.

SCENARIO 4: Alaska wins over Air 21, Talk ‘N Text wins over Ginebra

Despite their struggles this conference, the Tropang Texters still have their fate in their hands, as a win over Ginebra will give them a playoff for the last quarterfinals berth.
